Ethanol: Increasingly More Efficient
In the past 5 years, America's ethanol producers have become dramatically more efficient. According to an analysis done by the U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory, American ethanol production has:
- Reduced water use nearly 27%
- Reduced electricity use nearly 16%
- Reduced total energy use nearly 22%
The study compares data from 2001 with data from 2006. During this period, America's ethanol industry achieved these improvements in efficiency and resource use while increasing production by nearly 300%.
