Mission

FoodPriceTruth.org was developed in response to a coordinated public relations smear campaign against biofuels designed to make the American people, the media and U.S. policymakers believe that biofuels are the driving force behind rising food costs.

The goal of FoodPriceTruth.org is to set the record straight by discussing food prices in real terms. The planet faces two monumental tasks in the coming decades: reducing its dependence on fossil fuels and nourishing a quickly-growing world population. In many ways, the "Food Versus Fuel" debate represents an intersection of these two primary world challenges.

Unfortunately, the current "food versus fuel" smear campaign being led by the Grocery Manufacturers of America misleads the public about the true causes of food price increases and what we need to do to solve them. Under the banner of "food versus fuel" or "food before fuel," Congressional representatives representing the oil rich states are working to eliminate the federal ethanol mandate and working with various agencies to petition the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to eliminate that mandate. This is all being done despite the fact that several credible reports say that using less biofuel will not reduce food prices, but will increase fuel prices (thereby exacerbating food prices). Several organizations seemingly dedicated to solving world hunger are pointing the finger at the marginal impact of biofuels, while ignoring the true culprits (oil prices, increasing grain demand in countries like China and India, droughts, commodity speculation, and protectionist trade policies).

FoodPriceTruth.org will provide a clearinghouse of information designed to set the record straight on the domestic and worldwide food crisis.
